A monthly fee for an operating system? I don't think so. But I've not used Windows since XP,so I'm just sitting back and watching this slow motion train wreck. And yes,I also prefer Linux distros. I do wonder if they start charging a monthly or yearly fee for Windows how many people will move to Apple or to Linux distros? Already Android (Linux based) is doing really well these days. It will be interesting to watch, for sure.

I'm actually waiting for Google to come in and say they are going to merge ChromeOS and Android together into a more usable desktop environment for laptops. That would probably facilitate a major shift in dynamics for laptop computers as people with Android phones would be able to just get an android laptop if they needed one and still have access to everything they already bought or had on android.

AT&T practically gave away Unix, so universities everywhere started using it. Turns out quite a few people learned computers running Unix. If Microsoft wants to give that kind of advantage away by bleeding all their users month-to-month, that's great. For someone else.
