No, the Linux desktop hasn't jumped in popularity
Stories have been circulating that the Linux desktop had jumped in popularity and was used more than macOS. Alas, it's not so.

I agree it was probably a jump in ChromeOS because my opinion is that it would take a massive country banning MacOS or Windows for the masses to even notice Linux, you mention Linux to the average person and they won't have a clue what it is. Just because 1 in 100 on the internet use it doesn't mean the masses care or know of it.
And those using ChromeOS don't know or care Linux is under the hood.
