I seriously doubt Microsoft (or Apple, for that matter) will do anything that is surprising in the coming year. When was the last time they did?
Last time Microsoft attempted something new, we ended up with Metro.
For the record, I love Metro. It's a beautiful interface. Perfect for phones. Wonderful for tablets. Unfortunately, Microsoft decided to half-ass it on tablets (dumping a user into the 'normal desktop' when some things are run, not enforcing application programmers to go all-in on the interface, or allowing a choice).
Additionally, they decided to put it on desktops, which was a very poor decision, too. Not to mention servers.
