I always considered Apple moving to their own chip was a way to stop Hackintosh users, I never considered it would also keep Apple users from swapping to Linux once Apple inevitably moves on from the systems the way they do with iPhones. Win-Win for a company that wants to sell new systems in 3-5 years.
