Our democracy is broken regardless. But, furthermore, the already not democratic "visible" government is a collection of puppets that respond to billionaires and the shadow government. You could (with a lot of difficulty!) get someone who is not a puppet to office in the "visible" government, say JFK, and then the shadow government will remind people that this is not admissible.
