This is why I've been screaming about proprietary OS 'overlays' like HTC sense and Samsung's TouchWiz.
Now most people are reliant on those companies to provide updates for each specific phone, even discontinued models.
Google needs to put it's foot down in regard to manufacturers breaking the vanilla Android update model.
Old phones shouldn't be stuck on gingerbread just because they aren't being sold anymore. It's a serious privacy and data security issue, and I've been waiting for something like this to happen since 2010.
