Salon sucks, that's the reason I posted this article. I find the data fascinating here, but I'd like some more intelligent musings on what is causing it then Salon gives.
The best description of the American system is "managed democracy " or "inverse totalitarian ". As far as getting things done, the democratic system is mostly for show. By the time a political figure stands for even statewide office, those who fund political campaigns have long since vetted and approved him. If he wasn't good for them, he wouldn't be able to run.
