Fossil fuel subsidies are a staggering $5 tn per year
Fossil fuels have two major problems that paint a dim picture for their future energy dominance. These problems are inter-related but still should be discussed separately. First, they cause climate change. We know that, we’ve known it for decades, and we know that continued use of fossil fuels will cause enormous worldwide economic and social consequences.

All I can think is that if you were to remove these subsidies, prices go up. When the prices go up which party is going to benefit by claiming look what the environuts have done... then you end up with moderates joining the extreme fringes and you get...
Sure you could say we can move that to clean energy but it just isn't that simple. Nothing is as simple as you would like it to be when it comes to government or big business.
