Your Next Computer Should Be a Desktop
I get asked for advice on very practical but personal matters. “How do I block my boss on Facebook?” “Can I take back an email I just sent my ex?” The most frequent question is: “Which laptop should I buy?” To me, that’s like asking which Lunchable to feed your first-grader. I like to answer by challenging the assumption that that’s all there is. Forget the laptop, have you considered a desktop?

I can never get any work done on a laptop, it just feels too temporary if that makes sense, like a toy. Plus the keyboards all feel too small for me though the rise in chiclet style keys has made this better. Desktops tend to last way longer and have fewer hardware issues (for me at least) than laptops have.

personally, I have all desktops at home. Love them. They're a lot easier to work on, tweak, upgrade, etc. .vs a laptop.
I was issued a laptop for work, so I use a KVM to switch between the home mac and the powerbook. Both use my 27" monitor, keyboard and mouse. They're both roughly the same CPU-wise, so it feels pretty seamless to swap between the two.
I do have a separate laptop for vacation and all, but we normally end up using phones or tablets when out of town anyway.
I personally have an ancient 2007 Mac Pro thats still running nicely, and can still compete with todays pcs, and I also have a Thinkpad t61 I keep in the living room so I can watch youtube or check email. Though its one of the most easily takeapartable (Made up a Word!) laptops I've ever owned the customizability of my Mac pro is astoundingly easy and I don't feel like I'm breaking it when I upgrade ram or put in a new hardrive. That being said my mom has an HP elite from 2010 that I can't figure out how to get into, which sucks because It's fan is making noise and I need to clean the thing out, but still that things specs are still ahead of current high end laptops. Though at school I need to have constant internet so my ipad becomes my lifeline there.
We have both a laptop and a desktop. I use the laptop for just messing around on here or elsewhere on the internet. My desktop is for gaming and other intensive uses like storing media. Each have their specific use but someone who wants to play on Facebook while watching TV a laptop is what they need.

My laptop is hanging on soon it will be time to replace it. I have not looked at a desktop in a long time, but I think I will give them a look this time.

went for a laptop while I was in school and now my main computer is my desktop. a laptops portability is nice, but a desktop is so much cheaper and you can easily swap out parts, just can't be beat.
