    I don't live in Florida, but I have to figure that where there is water there be alligators, so is this common to go swimming knowing you could get eaten up?

    That's pretty goddamned serious. I've visited Florida on many occasions and I've never had the slightest urge to get into any of the water they have there. Too high of a risk to get important bits gnawed off by the wildlife. I did swim in the ocean a few times, but never far enough to get sharked. Florida is like the Australia of the US.
