Hard to win a race when the competition already has a release date. Despite Sony being in a great position, getting the device out to market is a big deal, early adoption is one of the key things, it's a new-ish technology and everyone is interested in it and getting your name into every household is key. Mindshare sells, not which device is better.

"You won't need to upgrade your PS4" is an interesting argument in this context. This has always been my sentiment when it comes to console vs. PC; I'm not into hardware porn like some gamers. But in this case, it's a thoughtful point that maybe even some middle-line PC gamers won't be able to reasonably adopt VR for technical limitations. It could be right off the bat excluding some gamers.
