That's because the lack the barriers that regular people have. It makes them more successful in competitive environments. They have less mental blocks to hold them back and will be brutal with regards to competition.

The planet is at the edge of the habital zone, and would be very cold. The center of the planet, where it would tropical on earth, would be like Northern Canada. It would be the only place that could really support life. It's also dark on the planet. At noon, on the planet would be like dusk here on earth. Plant life could be inhibited by the lack of light.
