When using a mortgage lender, the purchase of a home will always require an appraisal. However, the Veterans Administration goes an extra step with their loans by providing a home appraiser to determine if the property meets VA minimum property requirements.
The requirements are not designed to eliminate homes based on style, location or even size. Rather, the VA department wants to review the home to see that it is a safe, comfortable and livable property. The VA home loan is truly a great benefit for veterans and active duty soldiers that help them buy a home. It would be a shame if a veteran purchased a place with hidden defects and repairs simply because nobody took the time to look over the property.
The VA minimum property requirements deal with important items such as adequate heat, clean running water, access to the home and yard and a dependable roof, along with other things. All of these guidelines are in place to provide a safe place that the veteran can call home.
