Other than the Morgan County, Alabama meal, these didn't look too bad to me. While I'm not a nutritionist, Americans as a whole are terrible at judging what a proper portion size is. The Gordon County, Georgia meal in particular looks like what I'm told to eat for portion sizes on both Weight Watcher and the 21 day fit programs. Except the meal appears to have far too many carbohydrate portions and not enough protein.

Is this truly a starvation diet or is this more of Americans misjudging actual portion sizes?

Morgan County, however....I don't even know what to say there. I'm glad that sheriff was jailed because that truly is starving your prisoners. And Maricopia County needs to be forced to feed actual meat to prisoners who want it. Soy protein alone is not a suitable replacement, and since it's got estrogen-like properties to it, too much could be bad for a person's endocrine system.
