    If anything the problem will get worse given the increasing rate of technological change. The next generation of politicians could be even more out of touch than the current generation of politicians.

    I think ultimately the problem is most who believe they are qualified to be an elected official of the national government are either crazy or a narcissists. Sometimes I wonder if the government would be more effective if legislators and heads of state were selected by a random lottery of a selection of people that meet the specifications for the position. But then you run into the problem of who writes the specification, but I suppose its not worth thinking too hard about it because this will never happen.
