Very interesting, thanks for posting this.
I do wonder if unscientific forensic evidence is widely accepted in courts because it allows them to manipulate the outcome of trials. I understand that it takes time to construct sound practice and policy, but the reluctance of authorities to disregard evidence like this after it's been debunked is unnerving. I suppose they also don't want to consider how many people may have been wrongly incarcerated.
