I think people promoting blockchain for anything else than bitcoin are driven by the hype. Also I think that bitcoin itself is mostly hype at the moment. It certainly is an interesting social experiment and I do like that it succeeded the way it did. It's also a good thing that people (myself included) learned that central places like bitcoin exchanges can go down or can be operated by untrusted or pure criminal elements. Still, I wonder what the next iteration will be and I hope that the big banks get some serious competition in the future.
