Jones, the creator and face of the conspiracy-peddling website InfoWars, is on the hook for a total of $49.3 million for spreading falsehoods about the 2012 mass shooting at an elementary school.

Not really. The punitive damages will be capped, probably less than $2 million.
Of course, the whole thing will probably be thrown out on appeal when he is not barred by a kangaroo court from asserting a 1A defense.
Free speech (or to put it more correctly liberal speech) doesn't mean speech has no cost.

However, he was forbidden by the judge to even offer it as a defense.
