The whole different plugs for each country thing is ridiculous. This is what we should be using. Much more compact and safer.
That design also utilises the longer earth prong, but what about fuses, where do they go?
Where everyone else in the world puts them, in the device itself.
Really? Hadn't noticed a fuse in my iron.
Some irons have a thermal fuse. It wouldn't make sense to put a thermal fuse in a power plug. Apart from that I have no idea. I do notice though that British plugs are designed so you can't pull them out by the cord. That's probably a safety thing although I think I'd find it very annoying ;-)
They are mostly shaped with a grip ridge. The few that aren't are indeed infuriating! Have to say that the UK safety standards can make us careless. There was the time that I turned on a light switch while standing in a bath of water in a hotel in Cairo. Who puts switches in a bathroom? Pull cords, please. It just did not occur to me that the electricity in other places might be a tad more accessible than at home. Oh dear Jen. :(
Thanks for the handy tidbit of knowledge and useful site. :)
