Get smarter home without breaking the bank by converting cheap commercially available outlets into smart outlets with Hook
Hook is a RF-to-WiFi hub that connects inexpensive remote controlled outlets and bulb sockets to the Internet. This way you can control appliances and lights with you phone and IFTTT - without burning deep holes in your pocket! Hook is funded with Kickstarter. We have opened pre-orders through Indiegogo for delivery in Dec. I am Rahil Jain from Hack-a-Joe Labs, creator of Hook. I'd love to get your input, support and feedback. Let's begin Hook'in!

It looks like this product is for the narrow purpose of connecting remote control appliances and outlets to the internet. They mention control through IFTTT.com. That strikes me as a poor choice. The site started as a workaround for iPhone users Then they brought the service to the Android platform. Meanwhile, Android has picked up most of the functionality slack, and IFTTT doesn't work very well. If they do get their IFTTT channel, which they don't have yet, the trigger events are still likely to be as inconvenient as all of the others.
Thanks for the feedback. Hook works via the Particle IFTTT channel. Its already there and works well. The consistency depends very much on the trigger event. Some are better than other.
On the IFTTT compatibility, its desired off of most smart home products these days. It allows cross-functionality between otherwise incompatible gadgets .
It very much depends on what you use as trigger - some like google, twitter are better than others (facebook) in our experience. Scheduling triggers work best.
