After his car broke down, Florida church drummer shot and killed by plainclothes officer

At 3 AM if someone in plainclothes approached me on the side of the road, I'd have a weapon handy too! The fact that I could be shot dead for being ready to defend myself against a stranger is ridiculous. Also the fact that they refuse to state what "weapon" he was carrying makes me think it was a flashlight or some other they're too afraid to admit to mistaking and using lethal force.
I wonder what we will learn about the encounter. It will obviously be a one sided account. There is a big difference between an officer in uniform with lights and an unmarked car/officer.
At 3AM I would definitely want a weapon as well. I obviously can't speculate what happened but I feel like a plainsclothes officer should be aware that at that time of night (while not in uniform) anyone would be suspicious of his intentions as well. I expect a cop in black/blue with a car that has flashing lights. It really could just be an unfortunate incident but since information, like the type of gun the victim was carrying etc, wasn't released I am inclined to think this cop was a little freaked out and got trigger happy :(
