I always have my screen background in shades of orange or red, not blue, for exactly that reason. The downside is it seems there are so many more backgrounds in blues and greens. The default screen background choices on most operating systems for any device have few if any choices that are predominantly red or orange.

I use redshift on Ubuntu and also have my monitor brightness turned down as well. I don't like black themes though.
