Well here's someone who sounds enthusiastic about the monopolization of the web. I think the article is true but I'm old-fashioned and I'd rather look at a (badly made or beautifully designed) website of a small business or cafe to find their opening hours than their Facebook page. There are concepts to have data (like opening times, addresses, contact details etc.) in a format that could be used by APIs without having to centralize everything. I'm sure that's not gonna happen but I'd still like it better.
