"I mean it’s Nazi Germany. You think of the doctors in the concentration camps experimenting on their victims. It’s kind of reminiscent of that"
I wonder if Mr. Kinzinger will apologize for his comments, which stoke the fires of the crazies. He's telling impressionable radicals that Planned Parenthood is the modern equivalent of the horrors committed by Nazis? Is it any wonder, then, that they lash out? He and rhetoric pushing politicians like him are the motivations for these people, and he knew full-well the price when he embraced this fear-based politicking. I don't for a minute believe that he believes his own words. He is simply capitalizing on other people's fear for his own gain.
Seriously. I don't know how a public figure can compare doctored videos to the Holocaust and not face repercussions for it. I'm all for freedom of speech, but freedom of speech does not imply freedom from consequence. If I yell "fire" in a crowded theater, and someone gets hurt in the resulting panic, I'm at fault. If McDonald's advertised their Big Macs as a weight loss product, they'd face punishment. If a politician inspires a riot or is caught in a flat-out lie, nothing happens. There's no consequence.
I'm not sure what the solution is, but it's still ridiculous.
