    Colossal kings rebuilt in Luxor

    Two reconstructed colossal statues of King Amenhotep III, who ruled around 1388 BC to 1348 BC, have been unveiled in Egypt. Both statues are carved from red quartzite and have been erected in their original positions within the pharaoh’s funerary temple on Luxor’s west bank.

The expansion plan is a response to an incident during the revolution of January 2011, when the headquarters of the National Democratic Party (NPD), which is next door to the museum, was set alight. Now structurally unstable and beyond saving, the building poses a threat to the museum’s safety.
