A great read. One other point they omitted (or at least I didn't notice it anywhere) is the point that once people buy things, they have ownership of it, which means they should be free to modify it in any way.
I think this will be a boon for open-source devices. Anyone who cares about this sort of thing will be more likely to switch to open-source.
