They border china. China doesn't want us that close to the border. Simple as that.

If we invaded them without china's blessing, and we pulled another Macarthur and pushed them to the Chinese border and then pushed more (like he wanted to do before Truman fired his ass for insubordination), it would likely ignite a larger conflict with our biggest trade partner that holds (literally) trillions of our debt.

It was beyond any professional demeanor and could have easily provoked an even worse scenario. At the same time, there was no physical abuse, and as far as I can tell didn't draw his weapon and produced his badge early on in the exchange.

If I were to jump out in traffic, and threaten in the same manner, I would surely be charged with assault and making deadly threats. And frankly if someone shot me during the altercation they would be justified if I approached that way.

Finally, if my job got wind I was acting like that, I would probably be fired, and I don't work in a publicly facing role in any capacity.

Frankly in this situation I would have left, and called the police to inform them some guy with a red Tacoma in shorts and t shirt was flashing a badge, threating to shoot people and trying to stop traffic.

That would be chapter 7. Which is where they liquidate assets to pay off your debt. This one is your proverbial "last resort".

Chapter 11 is a "reorganization" bankruptcy. A bit different.

Our/my place in the universe. Its so incomprehensibly large its baffling.

I was driving down the road the other day and just thinking about what we know about the romans, and what people 1600 years from now will think about our cultures. Then it hit me how random it is that my "consciousness" is set in this day and age and not one hundreds/thousands of years ago, despite every molecule in my body being made from a star. Its really incomprehensible to me, but still fascinates me nonetheless.

not really. DDOS is distributed. Same with the implicatons of a botnet. You need multiple exploited computers from multiple different internet locations to execute this.

Doing it yourself, out of your house wont allow you to consume more than your contracted ISP bandwidth. So you would need to exploit other machines on different networks to form a botnet.

DDOS is harder to mitigate because the connections come from thousands, if not more, public IP's using the cumulative bandwith to choke the target (assuming the target has less bandwidth available than the aggregate of the infected source machines..

However you can CONTRIBUTE to a ddos by running LOIC. Which I wouldn't recommend to most as the legalities behind knowingly doing so are dubious at best I believe.

    They probably do.

We use a non-google spam filter at my office. And literally about 92% of the mail that comes is in junk and gets filtered. And this is a small environment.

When I worked for a University (50-60k users), our spam filters were closer to 98-99.5% filtering junk. And there still was a LOT that go through, namely targeting spear phishing attempts.

Google, with the traffic load they have, and how good their spam filters are (and they are good) I can totally see 3 nines in spam filtering... In fact im a little surprised its not closer to 4 nines.

This makes sense given the recent announcements as well (ie: a "reddit special" mythbusters).
