    I think it is a pretty much a slam dunk case if the city tried to settle. Hopefully they will win enough to make up for the lack of indictment. Not like it can really do that completely, but there might be a few pink slips involved if they get as much as they are asking for.

    Holy shit.

    The family had said they planned to sue the city for $75 million.

    Where on earth does that number come from?

      IANAL but I think that number is based on a punitive basis. So its not so much based on how much money he would have made, it is supposed to be a severe enough penalty to maybe get the cop fired or make the city give out a few pink slips to make amends.

        Sure. My point was that still seems like an incredibly large number. For example, that's a little over $2000 per officer in the entire NYPD. Alternatively, its enough to staff an additional 1500 police officers for a year, counting just the starting salary of an officer.

          They awarded the lady that spilled McDonalds coffee on her lap almost $3 in punitive damages. WTF do you expect, guy chocked the dude to death on camera.
