What I'm wondering is... did a complete map exist right from the beginning? The show bible Lauren created is supposed to be awesome, perhaps she outlined the whole world? We know Zecora is in it, so there has to be at least something about far-away lands.
Yeah, I didn't think of that. I feel like the map probably isn't complete, that way they can add new places to go to. I'm sure the Crystal Empire wasn't initially there.
The whole thing where the Empire had been gone for X years does sound a little dodgy. It was probably easier to quickly get a new Kingdom that way, the known map was relatively full already. Weirdly enough the episodes featuring the Crystal Empire always feel distant to me, perhaps it's how little we actually know. I can relate to Manehatten way better although I've never been to the US.
On a semi-related note, I just remembered that the IDW Mainseries #6 comic has a view of Equus. Dunno if it's canon though.
Yeah, magic is always an easy excuse for making things appear that weren't previously known. Yeah, I can see that. The Crystal Empire episodes did always feel like a different country to me for some reason. I'm not sure if the comic picture is technically canon, but it is interesting!

That's pretty exciting! we already know of more areas to the North of the Crystal Empire. Looks like we'll be able to make a globe at some point.
