I do believe that microsoft will make a rebound. They just need to start investing into the future, not try to keep people in the past.

My prediction is that the "year of encryption" will never take hold - there will start to be an upswelling of opinion that tars encrypting your stuff with "a guilty conscience" and "something to hide". Governments will invest massively to stop it taking hold - and when that investment doesn't work, they will simply circumvent it through deals with service providers and manufacturers.

There will be exactly as much encryption as takes this away from the mainstream and returns it to a "geek" issue. After that, back to business as usual.
