The Boring Company - Why Tunnels? (FAQ)
To solve the problem of soul-destroying traffic, roads must go 3D, which means either flying cars or tunnels. Unlike flying cars, tunnels are weatherproof, out of sight and won't fall on your head. A large network of road tunnels many levels deep would fix congestion in any city, no matter how large it grew (just keep adding levels). The key to making this work is increasing tunneling speed and dropping costs by a factor of 10 or more – this is the goal of The Boring Company.

"So what do you do for a living?"
"I work for a boring company."
"Yeah, my job's not too exciting either."
When the initial "boring company" announcement hit a while back when there really wasn't much info on what the company was, etc. The first thing that popped into my head was that it was some sort of clever cover.
I wonder how the consistency of what is being drilled through here compares to what would be drilled through on Mars and if this is is a trial run of the technology ahead of being implemented if the Mars journey is accomplished.
