Not defending this turd's actions, but giving the ref the power to eject a player for the game for something non related is not exactly a good thing. Leave the punishment to the league or team.
It was absolutely related, the fans were appalled, the public watching this happen live was appalled and if the ref didn't take action it would make the league look horrible, almost condoning of actions like this. The ref should have punched him in the face along with that red card, I bet he would even get an applause.
