NYPD chief asks officers not to turn funeral into protest against de Blasio
As thousands of mourners prepare to attend the wake and funeral of a second New York City police officer killed in an ambush shooting, police commissioner Bill Bratton is urging the rank and file to refrain from making political statements. “A hero’s funeral is about grieving, not grievance,” Bratton said in a memo to be read to all commands at roll calls on Saturday, the day Officer Wenjian Liu will be remembered at a wake.

@magisterludi - Whats your deal? Why are you so hostile to anyone that interacts with you?
Not "hostile". Concise and terse perhaps. Simply try not to allow others to misrepresent, or redirect discussions.
So you genuinely believe your word is gospel?
It's a plausible alternative.
Alternative? or irrefutable?
As stated.
Thank you. Everything is crystal clear now.
Your welcome.
Will DeBlasio make his appearance more low-key?
How low key are we talking about here? Like not showing up?
Not necessarily, he does not need to eulogize, anyone could speak for him, however he will/can not deny himself a political op. DeBlasio invites reaction from NYPD. It bolsters his base.
And why do you think the NYPD is reacting in ways that makes them look bad and bolser DeBlasio's base? Shouldn't cops have the most self control out of all of us since they are in the position of power and need to lead by example to the rest of the public?
EDIT: Added additional question.
I don't "think the NYPD is reacting in ways that makes them look bad". DeBlasio invites/demands reaction(s).
So making a scene at a fellow police officer's funeral in an effort to make a political statement against the mayor of New York is appropriate behavior in your book?
It was not a political statement. He is their boss. The scene/political statement was made by DeBlasio, pandering to his base.
If it wasn't a political statement, then what was it? Why would the police act that way at a fellow cop's funeral? The mayor gave a eulogy speech, it's his job and responsibility no matter what differences the cops and the mayor may have, there is a time and place for everything.
It was a statement as to his leadership/integrity, duh. Yep, the mayor gave a eulogy speech, despite the circumstances, for political gain.
So what? Hes the mayor, its his job just like its a cop's job to serve and protect which they have been abusing or otherwise this whole situation wouldn't exist in the first place. Everything else is your own opinion.
Again, that's your opinion, and nothing more.
Only if you ignore DeBlasio's history, esp his rhetoric since the grand jury.
De Blasio's history? Sort of like the NYPD's history of misconduct and violence against the public? Where are you going with this exactly? I merely presented my opinion that the NYPD acted disgracefully at their fellow officer's funeral, thats it. You seem to want to explain away this behaviour, which is fine. And it looks like you made your case clear, so thank you for that.
You seem to want to explain away DeBlasio's behaviour, which is not fine. He has put political gain before public safety.
You caught me, thats exactly what I was doing... I was explaining away the mayor's eulogy speech as being an appropriate thing to do being the mayor and all. But seriously, you win, your elite arguing skills have won the internets for you. Congratulations, here is an upvote!
