Germany becomes the first country to ban disturbing 'chick shredding' practice
Germany has just become the first country to outlaw the practice of ‘chick shredding’. Every year millions of male chicks are ground up alive or suffocated by the commercial egg industry. This is because male chicks don’t grow up into egg-laying chickens, and they’re not considered suitable to be slaughtered for meat. Around half of all chicks born into the egg industry are male, and end up being ‘shredded’ right after hatching.

When I first learned about Chicken shredding I made a drastic change to my diet.. Not vegan or vegetarian.. mainly because I love eggs and meat and have no shame there.
I switched to buying eggs from a guy with his own chickens. For the same price as decent shop eggs I get richly flavoured, deeply colourled eggs laid that morning. Sometimes there's even double yolks. Ta-da, I support a local farmer and his gorgeous hens and I get my fill without supporting the barbaric practises. We also get goat meat from him once a year (sadly he's not allowed to sell the goat milk due to laws, his wife makes excellent soft cheese)
As with most food practice the solution is to downscale and grow your own where you can, buy locally where you can, happy animals are tasty animals!!
I think I will forget that I read this. That is messed up.
