Jury: Apple must pay $626 million to patent troll VirnetX
An East Texas jury has ruled that Apple must pay patent-holding company VirnetX $625.6 million for infringing four patents. It's a massive verdict for VirnetX, a company that has no products and makes its money solely through patent litigation. If a decision rests on weather or not the litigation happens in a corrupt east Texas town, that's not justice. If the decision could be reached in a jurisdiction picked at random, I would be ok with it.
These patents seem that will also affect Android devices and Google Services. Jeez, we need to make it illegal for companies to hold a patent for more than a 6 months if they don't build a marketable product using those patents.
