atheism leads to mental imbalances and paranoia

You can make a strong case that religion does that, maybe this “psychologist” was looking in the mirror when he thought it. I don’t see a lot of atheist fanatics starting wars, blowing themselves up, committing genocide, or any of the other colorful ways people use to defend their favorite Imaginary Friend in the Sky.

One only needs to look at history to see the reason why the largest percentage of wars were fought: religious reasons. Some people in Egypt want to criminalize even believing and thinking, and I wonder how they plan to attribute intent of wrongdoing, given that some believing and thinking is involuntary, we have no control over what we are thinking, we can just control our actions and it turns out, not even all of them all of the time.

Criminalizing something that cannot be objectively determined is one of the favorite tools of repressive governments to get rid of people they don’t like.
