Mario in more realistic surroundings. Very Cool.
For those who haven't seen it here is a preview of the testing for a fan-made Mario game featuring Mario in more realistic looking surroundings. Assets are created in Blender and imported into the Unreal 4 Game Engine. Looks really good.

I would totally play a mario game that looks that good.
Definitely. Although looks a bit strange with Mario still essentially being cartoony. What might be even cooler is if they made him into a more realistic looking character...
I kinda like the juxtaposition of a high-res Mario in some settings that are more akin to a AAA FPS. Mostly because it's kinda quirky when done that way.
A friend of mine shared this with me, and when he said he felt that making a Mario game with level textures that detailed would never be necessary, so I just dropped this idea in his lap:
Super Mario Galaxy on Unreal Engine 4.
That is something that would be amazing to see with a more powerful engine and system.
Ye I think it probably would, but also i wonder if that kind of game is better off with their current style. I mostly use PC to game, but I do also own a Wii U because of the amazing exclusive games they have. And to be honest I do absolutely love playing the mario, pikmin etc.. games because of their fun style. Most of the games I play on PC are so gritty and serious so it kind of feels like a bit of a break.
But ye Galaxy in unreal would be pretty irresistible to try out.
Woah, that gave me the idea; Mario Maker ULTIMATE for PC, its just like Mario Maker but in 3d with an extensive world editor. Imagine how insane the maps could be! Wow....shame that Nintendo stays away from their non native consoles :c
Wow that looks great! I have wanted to play with game engine for a while but so much to learn in other areas.
I have played with it very little but it doesn't seem to be the best. Not the most intuitive. From what I have read of people who use these things more often, you are better off exporting to Unity.
Why not develop your own characters for your own game?
I have made a few little characters before actually, and given them some basic movement etc... but just for a bit of fun. To get anything cool out of them I'd have to learn a lot more programming, and it's not something I'm that interested in.
