I went through tot he recipe and was a bit floored that it used cake 0.o is that's a usual thing in the US?
I use thick cut bread (crusty if I've planned to make it in advance). Cake base seems like it's just far too sweet and crumbly to work properly

I had never heard of using cake for French toast, but I love angelfood cake, so I'm intrigued. I don't think I would eat it for breakfast, though, but as a dessert. I like to use brioche for French toast, but cinnamon bread is really good, too! :)
