Social media howls over 12-year-old's errant 't' on 'Jeopardy!'
Thomas knew the answer to the Final Jeopardy question: Abraham Lincoln called this document, which took effect in 1863, "a fit and necessary war measure." But the 12-year-old Connecticut boy added an extra "t" to his answer: emanciptation proclamation.

As a fairly casual but long time viewer of this show (maybe once a week on average), I've seen many people misspell their answer in the Final Jeopardy and have their answer correct. It was never really about spelling, but about the right answer, so unless the word is butchered and unreadable or not distinguishable it's usually ruled correct (if the answer is correct).
Maybe if they misspell it but not change the actual pronunciation of the word. In this case the actual word sounds wrong. Had he spelled it "emencipation" or something, they may have ruled it as a correct answer.

Agreed... The inconsistency of that show is laughable.
the host needs to understand that he is talking to a kid and not an adult. that was not very nice to say it that way with only one extra letter.
