Meet the American Nomads of Walmart's Plentiful Parking Lots
The two seaprate Walmart parking lots in Flagstaff, Arizona are well-known stop offs for travelers. This past summer photographer Nolan Conway spent several days making a series of portraits of both the overnighters and the people who sometimes stay longer and make these asphalt grids a temporary home.

I used to know a gentleman who's perfect idea of retirement was to 'camp' in as many Walmart parking lots as possible in North America. Every now and then I think of him and wonder if he's living the dream.
Im just trying to figure out how the heck that can be someone's dream, is there a sprawling community of other nomads camping out on Walmart parking lots all over America?
I suppose I could put it in context and say we worked overnights at a popular Walmart for camper-nomads together, but that would take away the mystery.
I do appreciate the context! I just cant imagine people living/camping out on Walmart parking lots where there is so many other beautiful places you can do that at, with a lot more people and just as friendly.
I totally agree. Myself I am in the midst of planning an epic road trip across Canada from Ontario to BC to the Grand Canyon then points beyond. Most likely back up via the eastern sea board. The goal is to hike as many trails as possible during that trek. Some would call me a bit of a nature freak, we won't mention what the others call me ;).
