    To me, Bernays' work is the Manhattan Project of communications. In this regard I think the conclusion the author makes is relevant. Frankly, it is discomforting in light of such modern trends as native advertising and personal media networks that conform to individual bias.

    It certainly can, and it probably is somewhat inevitable as any social platform grows. The biggest problem I have with circle jerkery is that as it gets exponentially larger it starts to spill out all over the place. This can lead to people self censoring perfectly valid ideas for fear of getting piled upon by the weight of the most popular cliques. Internet culture has always seemed to have a Lord of the Flies thing going on.
