I will probably get hate for this, but I do not agree with the pirates reasoning of "we deserve this" or "pirating is not theft". Yes. Losing a digital copy is no real physical loss, but that is not the definition of theft. If anything, they are stealing service. Of course the digital file is no loss, but that's not what gives the file value. If a file with data was what made it worth money, then I'd copy and paste the word "Epic" for 300 pages on a word document then say "Hey, buy my epic ebook for $10. Its a huge file!". No of course not. That's not what makes the file worth money. The file is worth the content inside of it. Think of pirating a game. Lets say, you pirate an indie game that is $10. This was made by a start-up company that employs 5 people. The game took them 6 months to make, and they worked a good 40-50 hour work week. That's five people, times 40 hours a week, times about 26 or so weeks. At minimum wage, thats 40,000 dollars. And thats not even looking at the money they put into the game.
So at the end of the day. Yes, pirating does affect people. This is their job. What if your boss came to you and said, sorry, you aren't getting payed cause people want our product for free now. I don't know. I just get pissed off when people get pissed off at companies who work against piracy.
