    Well, certainly for me Linux is the right answer. Though, there are certainly cases where it isn't the best answer. However, if you aren't in one of those cases, the points you make about security, upgrades/the upgrade process, and system stability, Linux makes a very good choice. And if you are running a server, I think Linux is (technically) the best choice. But, as I tell my students, when you are in a corporation or other big organization, paying the money so you have tech support to yell at (if for no other reason) is sometimes what the upper management wants as much as anything.
