    I don't get why this is such a bug deal. Every country for the past 10k years has spied on every country they could. This isn't a new practice it's ancient.

      The big deal becomes what they were spying on, especially if any of the leaked information can result in a discovery of how they were spied upon. It isn't necessarily useful to you, as it is unlikely you have reason to be concerned about nation-states targeting your personal communications for spying, but it is useful to a number of countries/large organizations that are at risk.
