Do you really think it's dying? If anything it's growing. This is a bad attempt from gaming journalists to kill the gamer identity to make themselves feel better about how corrupt they are.
That's exactly what I was just about to say, just slightly phrased differently. You're right, it is growing.
There is no one singular gaming culture. It's a series of smaller sub cultures lumped under one larger umbrella for the sake of simplicity. Gaming culture is large and very variable. What can we say about the overlap between FPS and Strategy players? Does a gamer who only plays single player share a culture with those who only play online? We don't talk about "Asian culture" and pretend that everyone from the Urals to Japan and Siberia to Indonesia is the same. We don't talk about "sports culture" and try to pretend that all sports enthusiasts are the same do we? The same thing applies to gamers. He rules himself out of actually knowing about gaming by opening and continuing with big generalizations
Well put. I love certain genres but can't stand others.
