The music industry is begging the US government to change its copyright laws

So what do they want? Death penalty for those who pirate music and all their descendants? Maybe they should work on coming up with actual original content that requires talent instead of constantly searching for ways to squeeze every last penny from the few crappy songs they've managed to get people to like.
My philosophy in life is that if you are going to complain about something, you have to offer a solution. Baseless whining won't get you anywhere.
