That should state 600 million years after the Big Bang, not 600 thousand. Good article though.
Thanks, I fixed it. I pulled the summary directly from the website and didn't realize they had made a mistake.
Journalists are notoriously bad at Math, especially dealing with orders of magnitude.
The author is a science writer at Caltech, so I'd be inclined to discount this one as a brain fart. :)
