I'll take a gamble and go with OMEX. I could pick up 42,000 shares with the money, and as technology improves, more wrecks are going to be discovered and the cost of salvaging them will go down. The company pays dividends based on the value of the salvage per share, the payouts will either be fantastic or the money will be wasted.

NASA isn't a company, they don't have a publicly traded stock, and if you were to "invest" in them, it would just be adding that $100,000 to your tax form as additional contributions.
If you want to invest in space exploration, you more or less have to invest in the material and fabrication companies as there are no ship launch companies publicly traded.

They've been trying to redefine it for a while.
Here's the article I read a few years ago about it losing mass, these guys want to redefine it as a set number of carbon-12 atoms: http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2007/09/070921110735.htm

So we've got three different ideas on how to change the measure, I have a feeling they'll be arguing over it for a lot longer and different groups will adopt one measure or another.
