I just can't wrap my head around how cruel sentence are in US, that's practically a life sentence and in a very unusual way. And decided by one bitter old man? Decision like that should be made by a damn committee of psychiatrists, evaluating if accused really is a threat in the future.

I guess you could always try to move to another country at that point.

I have two conflicting beliefs here that I just cannot reconcile:

      1) Sexual predators rarely reform, and we have to protect the children at any cost. 2) Once an individual convicted of a crime has completed his/her sentence, that person is now free. So why are we continuing to punish people after they serve their time?

The registry bothers me, because it's a dark thing I've convinced myself we need. And we do need some kind of measure to protect people/children who cannot protect themselves, but as this thread has already pointed out, the registry typically swallows a lot of teens who do not even fit into this category.

Like the rest of the judicial system, it's broken.
