I know this is a week old comment, but I just got Snapzu, so thought I might as well reply. I own the Wii U, and I can say while, yes, there are some gimmicky things about the Wii U similarly to the Wii, being a gimmick is NOT its sole priority in the way it was for the Wii. I am an 18 year old male who spends a large amount of my time gaming, but the Wii U is still my main gaming machine. However, if you just like 3rd party games (Call of Duty, Assassin's Creed, Madden, NBA 2K, etc.), or if you feel hyper-realistic, "mature" graphics are a priority, then the Wii U is not for you. But if you like graphics that really pop and use more colors other than green, gray, and black, or if you put priority on gameplay, not on graphics, the Wii U may very possibly turn out as your favorite console of all time.

The previous paragraph was written assuming you have no other 8th gen console or a gaming PC. If you have a PS4, Xbone, or gaming PC, then you MUST get a Wii U. It offers a different experience than these consoles (which could be a con of the console if you don't like the genres that or common from Nintendo), but these different experiences are what make it such a great console. Take The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD for example. It has the best combat of the entire series, so it doesn't feel like a 3 generation old game as far as gameplay goes. The shaders, however, make this game's timeless cell shaded graphics really pop, and it may be one of the most eye-appealing games I've ever seen. The color is beautiful, and the contrast of light and dark is handled really well. But above all, this game really showed me the true potential of the gamepad. Sailing across the ocean used to be such a hassle, as you would have to constantly pause to check the map to make sure you were going the right direction. The gamepad solves this, as you can look at the map fullscreen on the gamepad at all times. This isn't the best part, however. The best use I've ever seen of the gamepad is the ability to manage your inventory without pausing the game! This may not sound like a big deal, but it will shave literal hours off of a playthrough of this game thanks to this feature. It also allows for even more complex and skilled combat since you can switch between things like the grappling hook, boomerang, and hookshot without having to pause every time you want to switch.
